As part of the country's celebration of the National Arts Month this February, the National Committee on Visual Arts is set to roll out a series of visual arts programs. With a focus on four pivotal activities, this year's celebration aims to empower individual artists, elevate their artistic prowess, and build a vibrant community that thrives on critical engagement and mutual support.
Four main component activities for this year focus on nurturing individual artists, helping them pursue artistic excellence while fostering a critical and supportive community. The first component is Sining Sanayan, which is a series of art workshops led by distinguished members of the NCVA. These workshops address individual skills and concept development in drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed-media, and mobile photography. The target participants for these workshops are young artists and students aspiring to enhance their artistic abilities and foster creative exploration.Sining Sinag, meanwhile, is a physical exhibition curated by the NCVA that will be set up in select spaces. The aim is to showcase talents from the regions where the exhibition will be mounted. Finally, the Sining Biswal Scene is a townhall meeting, which aims to gather artists to discuss current practices in the region, focusing on how to overcome challenges faced in the visual arts industry. The NAM celebrations led by the NCVA will take place in five different localities and will feature some, if not all, of the component activities. It will be held in Baler, Aurora from Feb. 22 to 24.The series of activities spearheaded by the NCVA under the leadership of Dennis Montera is part of the nationwide National Arts Month, emphasizing the creative innovation within the Philippine visual arts scene, providing a platform for local talent and stronger connection between Luzon.
