The Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 in the Philippines has confiscated 35 firearms from individuals without licenses or permits from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) 7 since the start of the election period on January 12, 2025. PRO 7 has also established 3,591 joint checkpoints in strategic areas, including border control, to ensure peaceful and secure midterm elections in May. Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan, the head of PRO 7, emphasized their commitment to combating loose firearms in the region to provide strong security for the upcoming national and local elections.
