Philippine authorities have apprehended a high-value individual (HVI) suspected of drug trafficking in Zamboanga City, seizing P680,000 worth of suspected shabu.
Authorities have apprehended a boat skipper designated as a high-value individual (HVI) and seized P680,000 worth of illicit drugs during an anti-drug operation in Zamboanga City, police announced on Friday, January 17, 2025. Police Colonel Joseph Ian Lofranco, head of the Special Operations Unit-9 of the Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG), identified the arrested skipper as alias Empog, a 52-year-old resident of Tandu-Bato village, Luuk, Sulu.
Lofranco stated that Empog was apprehended in a buy-bust operation around 12:20 p.m. on Thursday, January 17, at Xanadu Drive in Baliwasan village, Zamboanga City. Lofranco revealed that approximately 100 grams of suspected shabu, packaged in two heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets, were seized from Empog, along with P680,000 in cash, two bundles of boodle money topped with three P1,000 genuine bills as marked money, a wallet, and a keypad cellular phone. Empog is currently under the custody of the Zamboanga City Police Station 11 pending the filing of charges against him for violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Lofranco emphasized that Empog's arrest and the confiscation of the P680,000 worth of suspected shabu marked the second significant drug seizure by PDEG operatives in Zamboanga City this month. The first operation, conducted on January 8, resulted in the arrest of a 26-year-old HVI and the seizure of P1.7 million worth of drugs at Lemon Drive, also in Baliwasan village, Zamboanga City.
