The Comelec has identified over 400 areas of concern across the Philippines, categorizing them as red, orange, or yellow based on their potential for election-related violence and security threats. The initiative aims to prevent disturbances and ensure a safe and secure election process.

The Cavite Provincial Police Office, in collaboration with the Cavite Provincial Election Office, established a Comelec checkpoint at the boundary of Kawit and Imus in Barangay Alapan, Cavite , on January 12, 2025. This initiative serves as a proactive measure to ensure security and order ahead of the May 12 elections. The Comelec has identified at least 403 areas of concern across the country, categorizing them as red, orange, or yellow based on the level of potential threat they pose.

Yellow areas indicate the presence of one or more factors such as suspected election-related violence, intense political rivalries, or the potential deployment of armed groups. Orange areas signify serious armed threats or the combination of multiple yellow category factors. Red areas represent the most severe security risks, potentially leading to Comelec taking direct control of the area to prevent election-related violence or interference. At least 38 cities and municipalities fall under the red category, a significant number of which are located within the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). This region has historically faced challenges related to political rivalries and armed conflicts. The Comelec has designated at least 177 localities as orange and 188 as yellow, highlighting the widespread need for vigilance and security measures to ensure a free and fair election process
