A motorcycle rider was arrested in Manila after he fled a Comelec checkpoint. Police seized a firearm and suspected drugs from the suspect. He admitted to delivering the drugs to someone in Bambang Street, saying he was instructed by his friend to do so in exchange for money. The suspect also revealed that he had no license and could not present any documents of ownership for the motorcycle he was riding.

A motorcycle rider was arrested after fleeing a Comelec checkpoint in Tondo, Manila , with a firearm and suspected drugs seized from the suspect. Body-worn camera footage from the Moriones Police Station 2 captures the actual escape of a motorcycle rider from the Comelec checkpoint at Abad Santos Street corner P. Algue Street in Tondo, Manila , around 11 p.m. on January 15. Police also stopped other motorists at the checkpoint while pursuing the suspect.

According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Alvin Christopher Baybayan, the station commander of Moriones Police Station 2, “He was stopped by our policemen, and he almost caused an accident with one of our policemen, and one of our policemen saw that he had a gun strapped to his waist...when he heard our policeman shouting that there was a gun, he immediately sped away.” Police cornered the suspect on Bambang Street in Tondo, Manila. “We had communication with our PCP units to pursue the suspect, and when he reached Bambang, the Bambang PCP police were there, and that's where we cornered him,” Baybayan said. Seized from the suspect was a sachet of suspected shabu worth 136,000 pesos. The suspect was also found with a caliber 45 firearm and bullets. The suspect admitted to delivering drugs to someone on Bambang Street. He said his friend instructed him to do so in exchange for money. “Because I was scared because I thought...straight ahead I thought there was no checkpoint...(did you get a gun and a sachet of shabu?) yes. (is that yours?) no, ma'am (whose is that?) my friend just sent it to me, I was just paid to have it...(why do you have a gun?) my friend also sent it to me. (will you give it?) yes. (to whom?) to my friend.” the suspect said. Police also learned that the suspect had no license and could not present any documents of ownership for the motorcycle he was riding. The suspect will face charges of violating the Omnibus Election Code, Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. He will also be charged with driving without a license and serious disobedience. He is scheduled to undergo inquest proceedings tomorrow. Police appealed to the public to cooperate with the Comelec checkpoint. “This is for the peace and order of our community, especially during the election, there are many bad elements or bad people who are really disrupting, so we need the cooperation of the people,” Baybayan said. — BAP, GMA Integrated New
