Team Blue secured a thrilling 9-7 victory against Team White in the opening high goal game of the 2025 Chairman's Cup at Manila Polo Club 's Enrique Zobel East Field on Sunday. The match marked the start of the 2025 polo season. Argentinian professionals Gregorio Gelosi and Gus Aguirre spearheaded Team Blue 's comeback, each scoring three goals, with their crucial strikes coming in the last two chukkers.
Gelosi's dominance began in the fifth chukker, scoring his first goal with a powerful 10-yard attack at the 4-minute mark, bringing the score to 6-7. He followed up with another attempt, tying the game at 7-all, after Team Blue skipper Ferdinand Martin Romualdez made a spectacular save at the other end of the field. Gelosi sealed his contribution with a third goal at the fifth chukker's buzzer, riding in from the left flank and scoring despite a challenge from Argentine pro Juan Zibaurre. Aguirre's final goal came in the sixth chukker, assisted by Romualdez at the 1:48 mark, solidifying Team Blue's victory. Team White had taken an early lead, fueled by Andrew Romualdez's two goals in the closing minutes of the fourth chukker, bringing the score to 7-5.
