Notre Dame of Dadiangas University rebounds with a win against City of Naga-Cebu Volleyball Club, while Umingan and City of Naga-Cebu Volleyball Club remain in search of their first victory.
University of the East (UE) remained undefeated after their first two matches, securing the solo lead in the Philippine National Volleyball Federation ( PNVF ) Under-21 Championship National Men’s Division at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium. The Red Warriors, a mix of high school and collegiate players coached by Jerome Guhit, triumphed over Umingan with a dominating score of 25-22, 25-15, and 25-14 on Thursday.
This victory followed their impressive win against City of Naga-Cebu Volleyball Club on Wednesday, where they took the match with a score of 25-12, 25-17, 23-25, and 25-17. UE's consistent settings and powerful blockings proved instrumental in their back-to-back victories, propelling them to a 2-0 start in Group B. This marks the first-ever U-21 men's five-day event organized by the PNVF under President Ramon “Tats” Suzara, who also holds positions as the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) president and FIVB executive vice president. In other Group B matches, Notre Dame of Dadiangas University showcased resilience by bouncing back from a fifth-set loss to Umingan in their first encounter. They secured a 1-1 record by defeating City of Naga-Cebu Volleyball Club in another thrilling fifth-set match, with the final score being 27-25, 20-25, 18-25, 25-18, and 15-11. Meanwhile, Umingan dropped to a 1-1 record, while City of Naga-Cebu Volleyball Club remained winless after two matches.The tournament, supported by a roster of sponsors including Akari, Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee, Meralco, PLDT, Smart, AyalaLand, Nuvali, Mikasa, Senoh, Asics, Rebisco, Cignal, OneSports, OneSports+, and Pilipinas Live, continues with preliminary round matches on Friday. The day’s schedule includes One Silay battling Lingayen Volleyball Club at 9am, followed by Zamboanga City facing Volleyball Never Stop (VNS) at 11:30am in Group A. UE aims to extend their winning streak to 3-0 on Friday when they take on Notre Dame of Dadiangas University at 2pm, while Umingan seeks redemption against City of Naga-Cebu Volleyball Club at 4:30pm
