The 2025 Cebu Provincial Sports and Cultural Festival (CPSCF), initially planned for Asturias, will now be held in Naga City. This decision was made by Governor Gwendolyn Garcia to ensure better accessibility and logistical support for the event. The festival will take place from February 2-7, 2025, and will feature 24 sports categories and cultural competitions involving student-athletes from 44 municipalities and six component city school divisions.
The 2025 Cebu Provincial Sports and Cultural Festival ( CPSCF ), initially planned to be held in Asturias town, will now be hosted by the City of Naga. This information was revealed by the Asturias Public Information Office (PIO) on January 3, 2025, and confirmed by the Capitol PIO on January 7. In a Facebook post by the Asturias PIO on Friday, January 17, Schools Division Superintendent, Senen Paulin, met with Asturias Mayor Donaldo 'Dongkoy' Camacho to formally announce the venue change.
Mayor Camacho welcomed the change and pledged continued support to ensure the success of the event despite the relocation. The shift is part of Governor Gwendolyn Garcia's broader plan to decentralize sports and cultural events across Cebu's cities and municipalities. Governor Garcia believes this initiative will foster collaboration and unity among Cebu's local governments and their educational institutions. This marks the second consecutive year that the City of Naga will host the Cebu Provincial Meet, following the successful post-pandemic event in 2024. Scheduled from February 2-7, 2025, the festival will feature 24 sports categories and cultural competitions, involving elementary and high school student-athletes representing 44 municipalities. As part of the Capitol's One Cebu Province initiative, component city school divisions will also participate in the Cebu Provincial Meet to strengthen the unity within the educational sector. These divisions include Mandaue, Talisay, Toledo, Bogo, Carcar, and Naga.In a statement released by the Asturias PIO, they expressed their initial excitement and preparation to host the Provincial Meet. However, the Governor's decision to move the venue was based on her desire for greater accessibility and logistical support, which would be better facilitated in Naga. Mayor Camacho reiterated his commitment to supporting provincial initiatives and emphasized that these efforts contribute to the province's overall development. Meanwhile, Governor Garcia clarified that the inclusion of city divisions in provincial initiatives signifies a new approach to educational governance within the province. This collaboration ensures access to programs like the Sugbo School Feeding Program and the distribution of school supplies, aimed at enhancing the knowledge and well-being of students across Cebu. With its proven track record, Naga City is expected to provide a smooth and competitive environment for the Provincial Meet, nurturing the talents of athletes who will go on to excel in the upcoming Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) games.
