The Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) welcomed two New Year babies and treated six individuals for firecracker-related injuries.

The Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) has recorded two New Year babies and six firecracker-related injuries after welcoming the year 2025. Dr. Shadrina Tahil Sarapuddin, ZCMC information officer, said the two New Year babies are girls. Sarapuddin said the first baby girl was born at 1:05 a.m. Wednesday, January 1, and the second at 3:03 a.m. of the same day. Sarapuddin said that baby number one was born through normal delivery and the second through cesarean.

All of the mothers of the two babies are still confined at ZCMC. She noted that some parents really wished to give birth on the first day of the year, wanting that they will be called New Year babies. Meanwhile, Sarapuddin said the six victims of firecracker-related injuries were as follows: a 25-year-old man from Arena Blanco village; a 23-year-old man from Sinunuc; a 13-year-old boy from Sta. Catalina; a 12-year-old boy from Talon-Talon; a six-year-old from Campo Islam; and, a five-year-old boy from Mampang. She said most of the victims suffered eye and hand injuries caused by boga, baby rockets, and piccolo. She advised the public, especially those who suffered wounds from firecrackers to undergo medical consultation so the physicians could determine if they needed to be injected with anti-tetanus.
