RODRIGUEZ, Butuan City – The Police Regional Office-13 has intensified the implementation of the election gun ban in the Caraga region, seizing 158 loose firearms , two improvised explosive devices, and 132 bullets. Police Major Jennifer S. Ometer, PRO 13-Regional Public Information Office chief, emphasized the unwavering commitment to the gun ban during the campaign period.
One-hundred twenty-nine firearms were confiscated through various operations, including the execution of search warrants, police responses, voluntary surrenders, and other law enforcement activities. Sixteen firearms were voluntarily surrendered by owners for safekeeping until their licenses were renewed, stated Ometer. Furthermore, thirteen assorted firearms were surrendered by former members of the New People's Army (NPA) who participated in the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program, she added.The relentless pursuit of a peaceful and orderly election in Caraga remains a priority, according to Ometer. The PRO 13 will continue its round-the-clock operation to ensure that loose firearms do not fall into the hands of criminals, particularly during this sensitive period. PRO-13 Director Police Brig. Gen. Christopher N. Abrahano echoed this commitment, stating that the PNP-Caraga is dedicated to eliminating the proliferation of loose firearms and safeguarding the region's security. He highlighted the importance of preventing these weapons from being used for illicit purposes, especially during the elections.
