PH needs to reinforce cyber defenses
THE Philippines has moved to third from fourth place in Kaspersky's list of countries experiencing web threats.Last year, the computer security firm recorded 14.1 million web threats in the form of phishing, emails and fake ads targeting Filipinos, representing 42.3 percent of local internet users.Only Belarus and Moldova ranked higher than the Philippines in terms of users facing cyber risks.
Secretary Ivan John Uy said there are more than 2 million job vacancies for cybersecurity as of last year.'So, we are intensifying on a massive scale our training and our capacity building for cybersecurity, for AI, for many of the emerging technologies among our digital workforce,' Uy said,The is also stepping up its information campaign to make the public more aware of cyberscams and how not to fall for them.In 2023, cybercriminals used the Viber chat program to send fraudulent video and file transfers. The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center detected the scam early through its Consumer Application Monitoring Systems or CAMS.Using artificial intelligence, CAMS can 'see' errors and automate event detection.
