All Posts Despite the country's reported economic achievements last year, President Ferdinand Marcos admits the government still needs to communicate better these gains to the public.
A bustling market scene in Cainta, Rizal, with meat vendors engaging with customers, highlights the local economy’s vibrancy amid challenges cited in the 2024 IMD World Competitiveness Ranking. The Philippines, ranked 52nd out of 67 economies, faces significant issues such as high prices of goods, food security, and infrastructure development.
During the event, Marcos said he was satisfied with the government economic achievement last year with gross domestic product was at 6.0 -6.5 percent. “But we have to make it known to people that this is what we are doing. So, it has to be in a language that is easily digestible and in a language that makes sense to Juan dela Cruz. We’re falling behind in making the connection between what we are doing to the lives of ordinary Filipinos,” he added.
Food security were among the reported highlights in the PDR 2024 together with advancing economic transformation and growth, investing in social development, protecting the integrity of the environment toward a climate-resilient nation, ensuring peace and order and national security, and pursuing digital transformation and good governance towards inclusive progress.
In his video presentation during the meeting, NEDA Secretary Arsenio M. Balisacan pushed to not only sustain economic growth, but also make it more inclusive.
