A tiny outback town is facing a tough start to 2023 after the threat of record flooding forced residents to evacuate.

NSW State Emergency Services put an emergency warning in place for the area advising residents to get out before 10am on Friday morning.“We did hold a community meeting on Thursday evening in the township, just to make sure everybody had the same information,” he said.“But they are banding together,” he said.

The ABC have reported Menindee residents are furious over the “lack of communication” from authorities over water management in the town.Mr McLennan conceded the community meeting had become heated. The flood around Menindee is expected to linger for up to two weeks and could impact 30 to 35 properties in the small township.

For those unable to find accommodation, registration points have been set up at Menindee Civic Centre.
