ALERT: Residents in low-lying areas in the NSW town of Menindee have been ordered to evacuate as floodwaters rise. 9News

The SES announced people in exposed areas need to evacuate before 10am because the evacuation route is about to close.

"It may be too dangerous for NSW SES to rescue you, and buildings may not be able to withstand the impact of flood water." The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting the Darling River will rise to 10.7m taking it above the 1976 record level."Major flooding is likely at Menindee Town during Friday morning with further rapid rises expected into Saturday," the SES said.
