ONE Silay pulled off a stunning upset victory over Volleyball Never Stop (VNS) Club in the opening day of the PNVF Under-21 National Men’s Volleyball Championship. Zamboanga City also secured a hard-fought win against Lingayen in another Group A match.
ONE Silay made a strong statement in the Philippine National Volleyball Federation ( PNVF ) Under-21 Championship National Men’s Division, upsetting the favored Volleyball Never Stop (VNS) Club with a hard-fought 25-22, 25-23, 22-25, 32-30 victory. The match, which took place on Wednesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium, saw ONE Silay answer every challenge posed by VNS in a grueling marathon encounter.
This win sets the stage for ONE Silay's campaign in the five-day championship, the first of its kind organized by the PNVF under the leadership of Ramon “Tats” Suzara.Meanwhile, Mindanao's top-ranked team, Zamboanga City, also showcased their prowess, overcoming a tough challenge from North Luzon's No. 2 team, Lingayen. The match went into a decisive fifth set, where Zamboanga City triumphed 16-25, 25-20, 23-25, 30-28, 15-7.ONE Silay and Zamboanga City are set to face off on Thursday at 2 p.m. in another exciting match of the tournament. The competition is supported by a host of sponsors including Akari, Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee, Meralco, PLDT, Smart, AyalaLand, Nuvali, Mikasa, Senoh, Asics, Rebisco, Cignal, OneSports, OneSports+, and Pilipinas Live.The remaining matches for Thursday include Notre Dame of Dadiangas University against City of Naga-Cebu Volleyball Club at 9 a.m., Umingan Volleyball Club versus University of the East at 11 a.m., and VNS facing Lingayen at 4 p.m.
