Negros Power will perform proactive maintenance on the Bacolod-Silay 69kV sub-transmission line to prevent outages and ensure reliable electricity supply. The work focuses on Segment P, replacing suspension insulators and includes maintenance at Panaogao and Lopez substations.
Negros Power will conduct another round of proactive maintenance on the crucial Bacolod-Silay 69kV sub- transmission line this Sunday, January 12, from 5:30 AM to 6:00 PM. The effort aims to prevent unscheduled power outages and ensure a reliable electricity supply for its customers. The maintenance will focus on Segment P of the 30-kilometer line, which spans approximately 4.9 kilometers and consists of 43 structures.
This segment will undergo suspension insulator replacement, with an estimated 130 insulators to be replaced. To ensure the timely completion of the maintenance work, Negros Power will deploy at least 15 teams to carry out the repairs. In addition, maintenance will be performed at the Panaogao and Lopez substations. The Bacolod-Silay sub-transmission line plays a vital role in electricity distribution in the region, delivering power from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) substation in Bacolod to the Panaogao, Talisay, and Lopez substations operated by Negros Power. However, the line, which traverses sugarcane plantations, is especially vulnerable to damage during inclement weather and difficult to access during repairs. “This sub-transmission line facility is 40 years old. The accessories are nearly worn out and substandard, and they currently cannot accommodate the required electricity and voltage. It’s very challenging, and we need to find solutions as soon as possible,” explained Negros Power Network Development and Operations Group Head Engineer Mervin Dalian. In December, Negros Power completed repairs and replaced hundreds of pin insulators on the first segment of the line, covering 6 kilometers. This maintenance is part of a broader initiative to repair and upgrade the entire 30-kilometer line, which is divided into seven segments. Maintenance activities on the remaining segments will take place over the next few weekends, with completion expected by February 2025. “We understand that power outages can be disruptive, and we apologize for any inconvenience this maintenance may cause, but we need to do this to strengthen and ensure the reliability of our lines,” Engr. Dalian added
