A cement-carrying vessel sank off the coast of San Jose, Northern Samar on December 30, resulting in one fatality and one missing person. Thirteen crew members were rescued.
One person died and another remains missing after a vessel sank in San Jose, Northern Samar on Rizal Day, December 30. MV Jerlyn Khatness, carrying cement from Naga City, Cebu to San Jose, sank in rough seas around 2:30 PM. The Philippine Coast Guard located the sunken vessel near Lavezares by Tuesday morning. Of the 15 crew members onboard, 13 were rescued. A 64-year-old male is still missing and a 30-year-old male was confirmed dead after his body was found in Biri.
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Eastern Visayas is coordinating search and rescue efforts with the Philippine Coast Guard. The NDRRMC has been requested for air assets to assist in the search. Joint operations with the local Coast Guard, the Municipality of Allen, and nearby towns are underway. The OCD also reached out to the MDRRMO in Lavezares for additional resources. An aerial survey was conducted to help expedite search efforts. The OCD provided hygiene kits to the rescued crew members and is working on transportation arrangements
