The Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) inaugurated its new second runway on Thursday, January 30, 2025, costing P2.07 billion. Julius Neri Jr., MCIA's general manager, stated that the runway will accommodate an additional 25% capacity for domestic and international flights. The parallel runway is 2,560 meters long and 45 meters wide. Neri also explained that the parallel runway will serve as a backup if the main runway needs maintenance or closure, ensuring uninterrupted airport operations. He added that once the new airstrip is fully operational, repairs on the main runway, planned for later this year, will commence.
