Police Colonel Enrico Evangelista Figueroa takes over from Police Colonel Antonietto Cañete, ensuring security preparations for the Sinulog Grand Parade remain on track.
The new head of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), Police Colonel Enrico Evangelista Figueroa, officially assumed his post, replacing Police Colonel Antonietto Cañete, who was the officer-in-charge Chief of the Directorial Staff at the Police Regional Office 7, on January 11, 2025. The turnover of command took place at the headquarters of the newly installed Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director, Police Brigadier General Redrico Atienza Maranan.
Figueroa, a member of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) class of 1999, was transferred from the Police Regional Office (PRO) 3. Following the turnover of command, Figueroa paid a courtesy call to Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia at Cebu City Hall.According to P/Lt. Col. Maria Theresa Macatangay, deputy city director for operations at the CCPO, the change in leadership at the Cebu City Police will not affect the preparations for Sinulog security, despite the parade being held in just a few days. Macatangay stated that the Sinulog security plan is already in place, and the outgoing city director had thoroughly reviewed it. She expressed confidence that the incoming city director is also highly competent to oversee Cebu City's security at this time.Figueroa will meet with his police officials to get updates on the progress of security preparations. He is open to making adjustments if necessary, as there is still ample time before the Sinulog Grand Parade. It remains unclear if Figueroa will make any changes to his police station commanders.
