The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced the appointment of new officials to head the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) and the Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) on Friday. Police Brigadier General Manuel Abrugena, former deputy director of the Special Action Force (SAF), takes over as NCRPO chief, replacing Police Brigadier General Anthony Aberin. Meanwhile, Police Brigadier General Bernard Yang, former head of the Southern Police District (SPD), assumes leadership of the ACG, succeeding Police Colonel Rommel Batangan. These appointments, effective Thursday, aim to fill vacancies created by the recent transfers of former NCRPO chief Police Major General Sidney Hernia and former ACG chief Major General Ronnie Cariaga following extortion complaints related to a Manila raid in October.

Yang replaced Police Colonel Rommel Batangan who headed the ACG as officer-in-charge.According to Fajardo, the movement of police officials took effect on Thursday “to fill up vacancies.”The movements in these positions came after the relief of former NCRPO chief Police Major General Sidney Hernia and former ACG chief Major General Ronnie Cariaga amid the extortion complaints in connection with their raid in Manila in October.
