A MINOR phreatomagmatic eruption that lasted for four minutes occurred over Taal Volcano in Batangas province on Tuesday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology .Phivolcs director Teresito Bacolcol told The Manila Times that the volcanic burst happened around 5:58 a.m. at its main crater which generated a 2,800-meter grayish plume as captured by Buco Observation Station in the island.
Asked about the possibility of raising the volcano's alert status, the Phivolcs chief said it would be unlikely at the moment since its monitoring parameters have not increased.'In fact, for the past 24 hours, only two volcanic earthquakes were recorded over Taal Volcano,' Bacolcol said.A phreatomagmatic eruption occurs when magma interacts with water, causing explosive events that produce a mix of steam, ash, and fragmented volcanic materials, the Phivolcs chief said.
