The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported a minor phreatic eruption at Taal Volcano on Thursday morning, producing a 1500-meter white plume. The volcano emitted 6,307 tons of sulfur dioxide and showed weak emissions of plumes up to 500 meters tall. The alert level remains at 1, indicating abnormal conditions.
A minor phreatic eruption was reported in Taal Volcano on Thursday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said. PHIVOLCS said the eruption happened at 5:46 a.m. “This event produced a 1500-meter white plume that drifted southwest,” it added.In its bulletin on Thursday, PHIVOLCS said one volcanic earthquake was recorded over Taal Volcano on Wednesday.The volcano emitted 6,307 tons of sulfur dioxide .
Also, a long-term deflation of the Taal Caldera as well as a short-term inflation of the general northern and southeastern flanks of the Taal Volcano Island were monitored.Alert Level 1 is maintained over Taal Volcano, which means the volcano is in abnormal condition and should not be interpreted to have ceased unrest nor ceased the threat of eruptive activity.
