TRAFFIC enforcers in Mandaue City caught slacking in their duties will face suspension. This was the warning of Hyll Retuya, the officer-in-charge of the Traffic Enforcement Agency (Team), to his personnel. Retuya told reporters on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2024, that he will implementing stricter oversight of field personnel to improve traffic management and address unruly behavior among riders.He said he is planning to intensify patrols and potentially suspend personnel who neglect their duties.
The agency currently has 200 personnel deployed in morning and afternoon shifts.“Visibility of our personnel is crucial. We have deployed them during the morning and afternoon shifts to ensure that traffic flow is managed effectively. We follow a strict schedule to prevent any slack in enforcement,” Retuya in Cebuano.Retuya’s strategy is the deployment of motorbike personnel for regular roving patrols, ensuring that traffic enforcers remain visible and active. Supervisors will also conduct patrols to monitor field personnel and address any lapses promptly.Retuya warned that personnel found neglecting their duties, particularly in the evenings, could face suspension. He has already restructured the agency by revamping division heads and assigning strict supervisors to enforce accountability.To support field personnel, the agency provides appropriate gear, such as raincoats and umbrellas, for extreme weather conditions. However, Retuya clarified that their primary role is to monitor traffic flow, not to stand in adverse weather unnecessarily.“We are not requiring our personnel to stand in the rain or under the scorching sun unnecessarily. Mandaue is equipped with traffic lights; their role is to monitor the area and respond quickly to any incidents,” Retuya said
