To manage the increased traffic and pedestrian flow during the holiday season, the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (Team) has implemented a 'No Leave Policy' for its personnel until the new year.
Traffic enforcers in Mandaue City may need to postpone their vacation plans as a 'No Leave Policy' has been implemented in the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (Team) until the new year celebrations. Team head Hyll Retuya, on Monday, Dec. 16, 2024, said the request comes as the City braces for the influx of people and vehicles in malls, churches, and other high-traffic areas.
'They are not allowed yet to take a leave because it’s Christmas, especially for our field personnel, as their leave is already guaranteed. So what I’m asking from them is just during Christmas and New Year,’ said Retuya in Cebuano. Recently, Team has deputized at least 100 Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) to help arrest habitual traffic violators to have them issue traffic citation tickets. Retuya said the purpose of the deputization is to augment their personnel as they are not capable of managing the streets on their own, considering the number of traffic violators apprehended by Team in a day, which usually reaches 150 to 200.Team field personnel, including those in the mobile group, have already reached over 200.Retuya added that the importance of maximizing manpower during this critical time to ensure public safety and maintain order. 'This is the busiest time of the year, and we need everyone to help manage the increased demand for traffic and security. We’re appealing to our team members to hold off on taking leave until after the peak of the holiday rush,’ Retuya said. Additional enforcers and police officers have been deployed to malls, churches, and other critical areas, where foot traffic and vehicle volume are expected to surge. 'The no-leave policy applies only within our department. However, I assume that the MCPO has also implemented a similar policy,’ said Retuya. 'Critical areas are those where malls or establishments are heavily crowded with people, so we are deploying our personnel and mobile assets to assist with traffic flow in the area,’ he added
