Mandaue City officials clarified that uranium-containing materials recently seized by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) were actually confiscated in Cebu City and Talisay City, not Mandaue as initially reported. While the operation did not directly involve Mandaue, city officials stressed the importance of vigilance due to the unrestricted movement of goods between neighboring cities. Mandaue City has reactivated its Eco-Watch platform to allow residents to report any suspicious materials or activities.

MANDAUE CITY — City officials here clarified that the recently seized uranium-containing materials, initially reported to be in Mandaue City, were actually confiscated in Cebu City and Talisay City. Mayor Glenn Bercede made the clarification during the 'Istorya Ta!' forum on Friday, Dec. 13, in response to an earlier pronouncement made by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) regarding the 60 kilograms of radioactive materials supposedly seized in Mandaue.

Calipayan emphasized the risks posed by uranium isotopes, including Uranium-235 and Uranium-238, citing their potential health and environmental hazards. 'It is still alarming because radioactive materials could potentially pass through Mandaue,' he said. To address these concerns, Mandaue City has reactivated its Eco-Watch platform, allowing residents to report any suspicious materials or activities in their community. NBI – Mandaue chief Arnel Pura said that the seizures on Nov. 8 and Nov. 9 occurred in Cebu City and Talisay City, respectively.
