VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur – The Philippine Councilors League-Ilocos Sur Chapter strongly condemned the murder of Caoayan, Ilocos Sur Councilor Anthony F. Verzola in Barangay Tamag here on Saturday, Jan. 25.
“We are seeking a thorough investigation for the immediate identification of the suspects and mastermind and to bring justice to the victim’s bereaved family,” PCL-Ilocos Sur Chapter President Jaime Singson said.
“His death is a great loss to the municipality of Caoayan. His killing raises serious questions about the reasons behind it. Such acts against those who dedicate their lives to serving the people and the community are unjust and unacceptable.” “We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved family and sympathy for losing one of our legislators,” Singson said.
Police have organized a tracker team to review closed-circuit television camera footages in Barangay Tamag to identify the suspects and track their whereabouts. Verzola, 60, was shot dead by gunmen onboard a motorcycle while he was eating breakfast in a restaurant. He died on the spot from a bullet wound in the head.
