Today's House probe will look into the water shortage problem and the proposed creation of a Department of Water.

Lawmakers will hold an oversight hearing this week to probe Metro Manila’s water shortage crisis as residents continue to endure long hours of water service interruptions due to dwindling water supply.

Invited to the hearing are officials from relevant agencies such as the Agriculture Department, the National Water Resources Board , the Metropolitan Waterworks Sewerage Systems , the Budget and Management Department, the Local Water Utilities Administration, the National Economic Development Authority, the Environment and Natural Resources Department, Maynilad and Manila Water.

This comes after consumer rights group Water for All Refund Movement called for an investigation into the status of the water source projects proposed by concessionaires in 2002.
