More than two-thirds of the representatives from Mindanao 's congressional districts signed in favor of impeaching their fellow Mindanao an, Vice President Sara Duterte , on Wednesday, February 5. The impeachment resolution, citing alleged constitutional violations and corruption, garnered support from approximately 68% of Mindanao 's congressional representatives, signaling a potential weakening of the Duterte family's political influence over the region's lawmakers.
A map published by the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ) reveals a breakdown of the support. Davao City, the political stronghold of the Duterte family, had the most representatives who did not sign the impeachment document, with three abstaining. Davao de Oro and Davao del Norte each had two representatives who did not sign. Other provinces with one representative not signing include Agusan del Norte, Basilan, Bukidnon, Cagayan de Oro, Cotabato, Davao Occidental, Davao Oriental, Lanao del Norte, and Zamboanga City.Conversely, provinces like Agusan del Sur, Bukidnon, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental, including Cagayan de Oro, contributed significantly to the number of signatories in favor of the impeachment. Provinces like Sarangani and South Cotabato in the Soccsksargen region, and Sulu each provided two crucial votes. Lanao del Norte was divided, with only one of the two Dimaporo siblings representing the province supporting the impeachment. Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur stood out for their collective support, with several lawmakers from both provinces bolstering the push for impeachment, indicating a unified stance within the Zamboanga Peninsula region.
