A 54-year-old long-distance walker is setting his sights on a Guinness record for traversing the Philippines on foot.
Lito De Veterbo, otherwise known as Mr. LNT , started his journey from Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte to Tinaca Point, Sarangani last Feb. 9.As of last Monday, Feb. 23, the Naga City native has already walked approximately 225 kilometers from his starting point in Maira-ira Point, Pagudpud to the town of Santiago in Ilocos Sur.'The purpose of my walk across the Philippines is to promote outdoor ethics and environmental awareness while attempting to set a Guinness record,' he said.
Police station and barangay halls are an option if no hotels, inns. or transient houses are available. I take a bath at places where I sleep overnight. I eat at the karinderia or any eating places along the way. Sari-sari stores are a good stop for rest and snacks.'Being an archipelago of more than 7,600 islands, he will assuredly have to travel by boat and De Veterbo said it's all been cleared by Guinness.
