as we begin the third week of life after Fiona. More Islanders were prepared for severe weather before the weekend of Sept. 23-24 than we were for the Labour Day 2019 winds and rain of Dorian. The communications were better, the warming centres were ready to go and individual supplies of generators, water and non-perishable food were stocked up. But on Sept. 22, none of us was predicting that so many P.E.I. residents would be left without power, heat, water or communications for so long.
Cheers to Charlottetown’s planning board on doing the right thing and recommending that city council approve a major variance request from the provincial government so that. Obviously, nearby residents have legitimate concerns in terms of security and people loitering in their neighbourhood. Nor is this a long-term solution for the province's housing shortage.
