Chan’s ‘critic’ on FB faces arrest for libel

A COURT has issued two warrants of arrest against critic and administrator of the Facebook page, “Kamatuoran sa Opon,” for allegedly maligning Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan. The Regional Trial Court Branch 27 issued the warrants against Humprey Elvira on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2025, on cyberlibel charges.

Elvira denied the allegations, saying he does not recall making a Facebook post directly attacking the mayor. He said his content focuses solely on evaluating the current administration’s performance. He also clarified that he identifies himself as a political critic rather than a media practitioner. Elvira, a vocal critic of politicians since 2018, said his criticisms stem from dissatisfaction with Lapu-Lapu City officials and have remained consistent under the present leadership. Last Nov.
