Legendary volleyball coach Sinfronio 'Sammy' Acaylar passed away Thursday morning, January 30, 2025, five days before his 67th birthday.Before his passing, Acaylar, who is the second child among nine siblings, had a fever and was brought to the Perpetual Help Medical Center in Las Piñas City. He expired at 1:30 a.m. on Thursday due to cardiac arrest.Coach Sam, as fondly called by players and colleagues, was one of the most respected volleyball coaches in the country.
He last served as a national coach for the men's team during the 29th SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur in 2017.Acaylar also coached Cignal and Sta. Lucia in the now-defunct Philippine Superliga before joining Gerflor in the Premier Volleyball League. He also mentored Savouge Aesthetics in the Spikers' Turf.'See you in the resurrection morning, my ever dearest coach.
