A fire broke out in Cebu City early Wednesday morning, claiming the life of a 78-year-old man. The blaze quickly spread, causing significant damage to three houses. Fire investigators are currently working to determine the cause of the fire.

A 78-year-old man tragically lost his life in a fire that erupted at 2:22 a.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, in Opra Unit 1, Barangay Kalunasan, Cebu City . Zosimo Aspacio, a married resident of Alegria in southern Cebu, was residing in a room at the rear of the burning house and couldn't escape when the fire alarm sounded at 2:29 a.m. Firefighters successfully brought the blaze under control at 2:43 a.m. and extinguished it completely by 2:50 a.m.

Neighbors alerted them that their parents' house across the street was engulfed in flames. Mendez described the smoke as incredibly thick, making it extremely difficult to enter the back of the house where her uncle had been sleeping.Fire investigators are diligently working to ascertain the cause of the fire. Victor Emnace Jr., the owner of the house, shared that he woke up to find a massive fire consuming his home. He immediately fled for safety. Raymond Villajo, a boarder residing next to the burned house, stated that he was still awake watching a movie when he detected the smell of smoke. Upon looking out the back window, he witnessed billowing smoke. Villajo swiftly rushed out, knocked on another boarder's door, and urgently shouted that there was a fire. The blaze caused the complete destruction of one house and partially damaged two others. Two families, comprising 15 individuals, were displaced as a result of the fire. The estimated damage is P160,500.
