ILOILO CITY — After spending five years in detention, three farmers from Barangay Mulangan, Igbaras, Iloilo, have been granted temporary release by the court on Nov. 25, 2024.
The Regional Trial Court Branch 72 granted the 'Mulangan 3' — Roberto Elamparo, his brother-in-law Ruperto Enar, and Ruperto's younger brother Ramon Enar — temporary release after setting bail at P100,000 each. The farmers were arrested in March 2019 under allegations of illegal possession of firearms and explosives, as well as multiple attempted murder and direct assault, with accusations linking them to the New People's Army .
The 61IB said nine improvised explosive devices were recovered from Ruperto's residence. The farmers said they were allegedly coerced by the army to carry the boxes of IEDs found, later accusing them of being rebels after taking photographs of them with the boxes.Human rights group Panay Alliance Karapatan, however, said the five years ordeal of the farmers is an 'unjust incarceration,' citing that they were arrested by government soldiers on trumped-up charges.
