Bacolod City health officials reported 13 fireworks-related injuries during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The Bacolod City Health Office (CHO) has reported a total of 13 fireworks-related injuries between December 24 and December 31, 2024, during the Christmas and New Year celebrations. Dr. Grace Tan, head of the Environment Sanitation Division of CHO, confirmed that of the 13 victims, 12 were male and 1 female, aged between 1 and 50 years old.

The injured individuals hailed from various barangays, with three victims from Barangays Vista Alegre and Bata, two from Barangays Estefania and Villamonte, and one each from Barangays Banago, Mandalagan, and Singcang-Airport. Dr. Tan clarified that one victim, initially reported as injured by a stray bullet, was later determined by the police to have self-inflicted the injury. The injuries were caused by various fireworks, including cradle bombs, five-star firecrackers, Bilong-Bilong, whistle bombs, kamaras, picolos/triangles, kwetes, pla-plas, and an unidentified firecracker. Victims sustained burns to their arms, legs, hands, heads, eyes, and forearms. All the victims were treated at local hospitals and later discharged, except for one individual who remains confined for further treatment
