San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora backed on Monday the proposal to lift the mandatory use of face shields in Metro Manila.

“During a meeting of the Metro Manila Council composed of the National Capital Region mayors and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority last night, it was agreed upon that the MMC will support the position of the Department of Interior and Local Government calling on the Inter Agency Task Force to lift the mandatory use of face shields except in high-risk areas such as hospitals and quarantine facilities,” Zamora said.

“The MMC is purely recommendatory. The IATF will be making the final decision on this but the sentiment of the mayors present during last night’s meeting, including mine, was for the lifting of the use of face shields,” he added. In a Viber message, the mayor said that once the IATF approves the recommendation on the lifting of the mandatory use of face shields except in critical areas, he will issue the necessary executive order and will also ask the San Juan City Council to amend the city’s existing ordinances which currently prescribe penalties for non-compliance.

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso signed on Monday, Nov. 8, Executive Order no. 42 lifting the face shield use policy in the city. Domagoso ordered that the wearing of face shields is no longer required in Manila except in hospital settings, medical clinics, and other medical facilities.
