A series of destructive cold fronts have slammed the nation's south-east, leaving homes without power and prompting evacuation warnings.
Deadly destructive winds continue to batter Australia's southeast, with a woman killed in a tree fall and NSW residents warned the worst is to come. NSW Police said on Monday morning that emergency services were called to Moama, near the NSW-Victoria border, after reports of a tree falling. Murray River police found the body of a woman aged 63 in the wreckage, while a man aged 63 was treated by Victorian Ambulance paramedics at the scene for injuries and taken to hospital.
Senior meteorologist Christie Johnson said wild weather had already hit NSW but the strongest winds were still to come. "The strongest winds for NSW are expected this morning with the potential for damaging wind stretching up from the Victorian border up to the Hunter district, including the south coast, Illawarra, the Sydney Metro and adjacent ranges," Johnson said on Monday.
