Transgender Roxanne Tickle has scored a win in the Federal Court with a judge finding her to have been victim of unlawful discrimination after being banned from a woman-only app.
A women-only app and its founder have been ordered to pay $10,000 after being judged to have discriminated against a transgender woman.
Although Ms Tickle was seeking $200,000, Ms Grover and the app have been ordered to pay $10,000 in compensation and legal costs.Roxanne Tickle, pictured leaving in court following a hearing of the Tickle v Giggle case in April, was victorious after the app was found to have"indirectly discriminated" against her. In court, Justice Bromwich did not order an apology from Ms Grover, despite Ms Tickle's requests, arguing it was"not appropriate" as it would be"utterly devoid of sincerity". In a post shared on X, Ms Grover said she and the app"got the judgement we anticipated" but the"fight for women's rights continues."
Sky News host Gabriella Power labelled the outcome of the Tickle v Giggle case a"massive setback" for women's rights.
