WARM weather will prevail in Cebu for the next three days as the northeast monsoon, or “amihan,” weakens. Joseph Merlas, weather specialist at the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration Visayas, said in a phone interview on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025, that most parts of the country will experience warm weather due to easterlies as amihan weakens. Merlas said three weather systems are currently present in the country — easterlies, Amihan and the shear line.
Despite intermittent rain in midweek, Cebu will generally experience fair weather, he said. Easterlies, also known as trade winds, blow from east to west near the Earth’s equator. They bring warm weather as they originate from tropical and subtropical regions with intense solar heating. Merlas advised the public to stay updated through reliable sources and to visit Pagasa’s website and Facebook page.
