The Department of Social Welfare and Development's (DSWD) flagship anti-hunger program, Walang Gutom, has expanded to Iloilo province, providing food assistance to 290 family beneficiaries in Batad town. The program aims to alleviate hunger and ensure no child or family is left behind.
ILOILO CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development ( DSWD )'s flagship program, Walang Gutom , aimed at combating hunger among vulnerable families, has been extended to Iloilo province. In Batad town, Iloilo, beneficiaries of the DSWD Walang Gutom program are purchasing food from local retailers. The DSWD -6 released a total of P870,000 in food assistance to 290 family beneficiaries.
Each beneficiary received P3,000, disbursed through electronic benefit transfer cards, which they utilize to purchase essential food items. 'The Walang Gutom program transcends the boundaries of a mere food assistance initiative,' stated DSWD-6 Assistant Regional Director for Operations Katherine Joy M. Lamprea. 'It embodies a beacon of hope and progress, guaranteeing that no child endures hunger and no family is left behind.' The DSWD-6 initially launched the program in Negros Occidental and has since expanded its reach to Iloilo and Antique provinces.In Iloilo, a comprehensive distribution network will benefit 10,406 household beneficiaries across 42 towns and the component city of Passi. The Walang Gutom Program Regional Program Management Office, headed by Asuncion M. Santiago, collaborates closely with local government units (LGUs) and other vital stakeholders to ensure the seamless execution of food redemption activities
