Surigao del Sur 2nd District Rep. Johnny Pimentel said Filipino claimants seeking compensation in connection with the Dengvaxia fiasco can bolster their lawsuits by citing the adverse findings of United States’ Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on the anti-dengue vaccine.

“Offhand, the US FDA’s discovery – that Dengvaxia ‘appears to act like a first dengue infection’ in people with no prior dengue virus infection – tends to favor the claimants,” Pimentel, a senior member of the House of Representatives in the 18th Congress, said.

The plaintiffs are seeking reparation from respondents French Sanofi Pasteur, the French maker of Dengvaxia, and distributor Zuellig Pharma Holdings Pte. Ltd. Pimentel is the former chairman of the House Good Government and Public Accountability that conducted a joint inquiry with the House Committee on Health into the Philippines’ controversial anti-dengue vaccination program using Dengvaxia.
