A bushfire was started by the accident in thick bushland near Appin Road at Appin in Macarthur at 3pm.READ MORE:They are yet to be formally identified, NSW Police said.
"Police will work with Australian Transport Safety Bureau investigators as inquiries into the circumstance surrounding crash continue," NSW Police said.The bureau is sending officials from Brisbane and Canberra to investigate and is appealing for anybody who saw the plane toFollowing a search of the area police and ambulance crews found a light plane with two dead aboard.
"The initial ATSB safety investigation will include an examination of the wreckage, assessment of aircraft and pilot records, weather information and any available recorded data," a spokesman said."However, should a critical safety issue be identified during the course of the investigation, the ATSB will immediately notify relevant parties."
Police earlier confirmed an aircraft was missing in the area after taking off from the small private Wedderburn Airport.
