Two people have died in a plane crash in Sydney’s south-west on Monday afternoon

Emergency services were called to reports of a scrub fire in bushland around Appin, about 75 kilometres south-west of the Sydney CBD, before 3pm on Boxing Day.

After an extensive search of the area, near Appin Road and Colliery Road, the crews found a light plane and two deceased people.NSW Rural Fire Service spokesman Ben Shepherd said the RFS first received a call reporting a bushfire about 2pm. He said crews from the RFS and Fire and Rescue NSW responded, initially believing the fire was caused by a possible truck crash.

The fire, which reached about five hectares in size, was contained before 5pm and no properties were affected.Police were also working with Australian Transport Safety Bureau investigators and continuing their inquiries into the circumstances of the crash.
