Northern Territory Police and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority are searching for a light aircraft that was reported missing on Christmas Eve.

AMSA said search and rescue aircraft have been deployed from Cairns and Essendon for the search, with additional assistance NT-based fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft. "AMSA is urging anyone who may have seen the plane between Katherine and Gove to contact the AMSA Response Centre on 1800 815 257," AMSA said.

The NT has seen heavy rainfall and flooding in the last few days, as ex-Tropical Cyclone Ellie continues moving inland, after making landfall late on Thursday.
