Twitter imposed a ban on political ads in 2019, with then-CEO Jack Dorsey arguing it was necessary to limit the 'significant risks' and 'challenges to civic discourse' posed by internet political ads.
Twitter is ending its ban on political advertising, a reversal of the company's policy that"political message reach should be earned, not bought."
"Moving forward, we will align our advertising policy with that of TV and other media outlets. As with all policy changes, we will first ensure that our approach to reviewing and approving content protects people on Twitter. We'll share more details as this work progresses." Political content is defined broadly as any content that"references a candidate, political party, elected or appointed government official, election, referendum, ballot measure, legislation, regulation, directive, or judicial outcome."
"We've made the decision to stop all political advertising on Twitter globally. We believe political message reach should be earned, not bought," Dorsey tweeted.

2022 was an ‘interesting’ and ‘probably not a good year’ for Elon MuskRecastled CEO Kosha Gada says 2022 has been an interesting and “probably not a good year” for Twitter CEO Elon Musk. “He was the richest man in the world until two weeks ago or so,” Ms Gada told Sky News host Caleb Bond. “He’s now the second richest man in the world, and a lot of investors are nervous, they attribute some of it to the fact that he’s distracted, you know, running two companies now with Twitter.” Ms Gada said Mr Musk has become a “polarised” figure as people either like him or hate him, and it’s the thing that he’s “grappling” with.
