Hollein also acknowledged the challenges of bringing Friedrich’s work to American audiences, remarking, “We owe this extraordinary exhibition to our curators, researchers, and the institutions that collaborated with us over the past four years to bring these masterpieces to The Met.” He acknowledged Friedrich’s relative obscurity in the U.S. and expressed confidence that the exhibition would change that, stating,
