Pope Francis appointed Pablo Virgilio Cardinal David , bishop of Kalookan, on Saturday as a member of a curial institution.In a bulletin, the Vatican announced Cardinal David 's appointment as member of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith.The Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, part of the Roman Curia, was created by Pope Paul III in 1542 as a tribunal exclusively for cases of heresy and schism, according to the Vatican website.
In 1988, under Pope John Paul II, the body's responsibility was specified as "to promote and defend the doctrine of the faith and its traditions in all of the Catholic world".The Caloocan diocese also announced Cardinal David's appointment early Sunday."Let us continue to pray for Cardinal Ambo as he takes on this new important role in the universal Church," its post on Facebook read.
