MARY Ann Maslog, a.k.a. Jessica Francisco, was convicted of graft and corruption in connection with the P24 million textbook scam in 1998.In a decision issued on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, the Sandiganbayan second division has found Maslog “guilty beyond reasonable doubt” for violating Republic Act 3019, or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act. She was sentenced to six to 10 years of imprisonment and perpetually disqualified from holding public office.
This order was crucial for the immediate release of funds for the publishing firm's P400-million contract with the Decs to acquire books for high school students nationwide. In October 2020, the Sandiganbayan anti-graft court convicted two former Decs officials, Emilia Aranas and Ernesto Guiang, sentencing them to 10 years in prison after they were found guilty of graft and corruption. The order, however, does not include Maslog because she was declared dead by her lawyers in November 2019.
