The Melbourne school friends who survived a terrifying night floating through Port Phillip Bay clinging to paddleboards - have spoken from hospital. LanaMurphy 9News MORE:
The teens drifted through Port Phillip Bay holding onto two paddle boards for at least seven hours after getting caught in strong winds which pushed them into the middle of the bay.
The two 18-year-old men, an 18-year-old woman and a 19-year-old woman floated to the opposite side of the bay to Swan Island about 2am, where they found shelter under a hunt.Early this morning, the teens were spotted by security on the island, which is an army training ground. The group had gone paddle boarding while celebrating the end of their VCE at Rosebud Beach off Point Nepean Road in Rosebud yesterday."Our kids have found and we are very very happy about that," he told reporters.Acting Superintendent Terence Rowlands has said the teens were found "safe and well" by a local doing their regular morning beach walk in an "absolutely fantastic outcome".The teens have been taken to Geelong Hospital, where they remain.
Emergency services are searching for four teenagers believed to have not returned from paddle boarding.Locals reported there strong easterly winds picked up overnight, with high tide taking water away from shore after midnight. Air and water police along and other emergency rescuers launched a major search, which went on through the night, using helicopters and boats.
