Three out of the four teens who survived a night adrift in Port Phillip Bay have been discharged from hospital, with a family member saying the news of their rescue was a “huge relief”.

The four Melbourne teenagers who spent a night adrift on Port Phillip Bay kept their paddleboards together by linking paddles and hugged each other for warmth throughout their ordeal on the water, a father of one of the castaways has revealed.

Officers called in the air wing, water police and other services, and a search for the paddleboarders started. The women were located just before 10pm by volunteer rescuers and returned to shore without further incident.Speaking outside University Hospital geelong, where his son was still being cared for, relieved dad Jack Shi described how the four rookie paddleboarders kept their vessels together and floated 20 kilometres from Rosebud to Swan Island, near Queenscliff from Monday night.

On Wednesday morning a spokeswoman from University Geelong Hospital confirmed three of the teenagers had been discharged. The teenagers were celebrating finishing their VCE and were in the water off Rosebud Beach on the Mornington Peninsula on Monday night.Strong winds and bay currents pushed them out into the bay, and with their phones among their belongings on shore, they were unable to call for help.
